How Porsche Makes A Winning Combo: Performance, Appeal, and Dependability

If you’re going to drive a high-powered, so-called “performance car,” especially a European model, you have to expect that it’s going to be temperamental and hard to maintain – right?

Not if it’s a Porsche 911. Don’t take our word for it. Our authority is J.D. Power, one of the biggest names in consumer research, compiling unbiased mega-data that tracks consumer thinking and behavior. It studies cars extensively, and not surprisingly, Porsche comes out looking great. 

Dependability

The Porsche 911 was ranked as highest for trouble-free ownership in Power’s “2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) – and it was for the second year and the third time in the last four years. Meanwhile, the Cayenne was ranked as the most dependable in its Upper Midsize Premium SUVs segment.

To get its rankings, J.D. Power measures the number of problems per 100 vehicles over the past 12 months; the vehicles are three years old, so this study covered 2019 vehicles. Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America said,  “This year’s top rankings for the Porsche 911 and the Cayenne exemplify our commitment to designing and delivering exciting vehicles that their owners can depend on, drive after drive.”

Appeal

But there’s more! The entire Porsche brand came out highest in J.D. Power’s “2022 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study.” That annual study gauges customer experience with a brand. And Porsche took the crown for the fourth year running. The Porsche 911 was ranked highest in its Premium Sporty Car segment. 

APEAL looks at the emotional attachment and excitement with their new cars. Power queried more than 84,000 consumers on their impressions after three months of ownership. On an overall score of 1000 points, based on 37 different measures, Porsche got 888 points.
